Workplace Assessments

Carrying out Workplace Assessments is one of the Competencies of the Australasian Faculty of Occupational Medicine. While other professionals, such as safety officers also carry out workplace assessments, the occupational health physician’s ability to carry out such assessments within a medical context gives him or her unique credibility in this area.

Acquiring some skills in Workplace Assessments may be both professionally useful and personally satisfying to other medical practitioners as well. An orthopaedic surgeon may find that doing such assessments adds value and credibility to his or her medicolegal opinions on patients. General practitioners may gain another dimension to understanding the issues confronting their patients on a daily basis by visiting their workplace.

Performing Workplace Assessments require medical specialists to move out of the comfort zone of the consulting rooms and to learn new skills.

Whatever their specialty, physicians in rural and remote areas have fewer opportunities for supervised training in workplace assessments. This module was developed to help address this need. Take the course...
